THE CHURCH’S BEST KEPT SECRET
The Church’s best kept secret is that the Abundant Life that we seek for as long as we live is on the other side of that narrow gate. It’s part of the “all these things” of Matthew 6:33 and the R-P-J (righteousness, peace and joy) of Romans 14:17, all of which are only found in the life of the Kingdom of God.
That’s not negotiable – it’s just the way it is because God made it so and He gets the last word about everything. Go ahead, chase Satan’s illusions or bang your head against the wall, but you’re doomed to failure. When you’re tired of it, or when the crisis comes (and it will), run to Jesus as He said in Matthew 11:28-30 and He will give you rest for your soul.
Satan has been able to blind the eyes of the “Christian” masses and their shepherds to the truth of the wonderfully rewarding life of the Kingdom of God (See Matthew 13:14-15), and this approach to Abundant Life is rarely preached.
First, it requires coming to Jesus, which naturally distances us from the world and its stuff that the “Christian” masses love and the organized church approves of. We’re busy accumulating our “stuff,” collecting our CD’$ and trying to look good like our churchy friends do. Besides, it would make us look like oddballs and we’re ashamed to bear His Name in that way. Our preachers refuse to preach it because if they did, some folks would leave for the arid pasture on the other side of the fence.
Secondly, if this was preached and practiced it would threaten our dependence upon the present institutional church whose belief systems, organization and facilities have become our proxy for Jesus’ Matthew 16:18 Church, and the institutional-religion system would fight to preserve its power and control.
I highly suspect that Jesus would speak to us today much like He spoke to the scribes and Pharisees of His Day.
