Do we in the Church in America fear/reverence God in a way that compels us to take Him seriously and to consider His current activities?
It looks to me like we’re pretty casual about what’s going on in our chaotic world. We talk about it politically some but rarely from a spiritual standpoint, and we just keep moving along as though freedoms in our land will continue forever. I don’t hear of many prayer meetings being called to petition God for our nation, and for wisdom, understanding and instruction on how to do well in the coming Day. Church, we are adrift in a storm without an anchor and we don’t even know it!
We’re not preparing to be community with each other, to share resources and stand together in a time of trouble. Or talking about our response to the soon-coming and fatal mark of the beast, or to brutal thieves who would ravage our homes in a time of shortage. We just keep rolling along “same-old same-old,” buying and selling and building our stash to improve our lot in life and assure our security in the future. Folly defined!
If it is true that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and that knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Proverbs 9:10, https://biblehub.com/proverbs/9-10.htm) – then we have some clues on how to become informed about how to approach the challenges and issues of our Day.
I don’t know a better way to start than to read the book of Revelation, out loud, and invite God to show Himself to you. You don’t need to understand the symbolism there, just read it and feel the majesty and power of God and see His judgment against Satan and those of his kingdom – and His intervention on behalf of those who are truly His.
You will be awed; you will be humbled before Him; you will view current events differently – and I venture that you will find yourself compelled to action for the sake of His Kingdom. The fear of God brings enlightenment and action – and the freedom and joy of the Revelation 22:17 Water of Life!
It’s time we get serious. Pastors, where is your shepherd’s heart?
