25-30, The Potter and the Clay

The measure to which the organized church in America has prostituted herself to the world escapes many because we have so given ourselves to the desires of the flesh as a way of life that it no longer bothers our consciences.

We have believed “the lie” that we can be gods unto ourselves and make our own rules about what God requires of us, and have felt free to disregard His call to the life of Spirit-empowered holiness and mission that Jesus modeled.

It is the epitome of spiritual arrogance for Christians to pray for revival in our nation while we ourselves are pretending to be so spiritual even as we are unfit to be a guiding light and preserving salt to her because of our superficiality.

God prospered America in a very intentional way for His Names’ sake – with unusual natural resources, foundational Biblical values, and a political system to facilitate our taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth, but we have squandered it upon our fleshly pleasures.

The problem is not in Washington, it is in what we call “the church.” My friends, America is about to pay a price for our sin. The responsibility for the decline of our nation rests at our feet, and don’t think that Jesus owes it to you to rapture you out of here before it gets tough. Repentance must begin with the household of God.

Read Jeremiah 18:1-12, and especially consider vv 9-12: “Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it; 10 if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will think better of the good with which I had promised to bless it. 11 So now then, speak to the men of Judah and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Behold, I am fashioning calamity against you and devising a plan against you. Oh turn back, each of you from his evil way, and reform your ways and your deeds.”’ 12 But they will say, ‘It’s hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.’” NASB 1995

Wow – read v12 again. Isn’t that the response of many who flock into our churches each Sunday? How about you, and me?
