We the Church must be prepared for spiritual darkness and troubles that we can’t presently imagine, and we’re not.
I’m not saying we won’t feel pain, I’m only saying that deep down inside we will have an inexplicable peace that comes from the rule of God in our soul. The peace that the man Jesus had in depths of trials that we will never know. The peace that comes from Sovereign God whose eye is on us and who has the last word about everything. Nothing that happens in any sphere of life can take our peace if we are properly rooted in Christ and in His Kingdom. John 8:12 is still true.
“They” can take everything we have; another man-created disease can ravage the earth; civil war can erupt; ten volcanoes can blow even as 10 earthquakes rattle the globe; a giant asteroid can slam into our land; alien beings can roam our streets; terrorist cells can attack from within; the Left can overrun our land; floods can be here and drought there; friends and family can betray us – yet there we are, looking up and worshiping God as we help those in need and declare Jesus our Lord and the Father as sovereign over all.
How? Because we are Spirit-empowered by the Eternal Life that flows from the Father to those who know Him, and all we are and all we have is entrusted to Him and nothing else matters! We can actually engage in that life now if we are in spirit-to-Spirit communion with the Father and are seeking the Life of the Kingdom of God, present and future, more than things of this world.
Such life helps us face troubles like our heroes of faith in Hebrews 10:32-11:40 did, and like my Anabaptist foreparents who sang praises to God as they were led to the stake to be burned alive. They simply abandoned themselves to the Father because of their unconditional faith in Him. Nothing mattered more than serving Him – and we can do the same!
