#78 – The Jesus Survey, 1 of 4

“HOW ARE WE DOING?”

We get many “How are we doing” surveys these days – – our last visit to the auto repair shop or to the doctor, our tax-preparer and others. They want our opinion so they can serve us better.

Jesus isn’t with us physically today to ask him face to face, so let’s imagine we send Him a “How are we doing?” questionnaire. It might start like this.

—————————————————–

Dear Jesus:

We want to be good Christians. We’re doing fairly well at going to church; at avoiding the really bad sins that we know you hate; and at erecting nice church buildings for your glory and to make it easier to worship you. We’ve developed impressive programs to teach our children and to win the lost, and at my church we believe the whole Bible.

But Jesus, there’s a lot of turmoil in our land and it’s making us uncomfortable. Those crooked _______’s from the other party in Washington are out of control. We vote, put up signs and complain about the crooked politicians, but it just doesn’t seem to make a difference. We fear we’re going to lose some of our freedoms.

Also disturbing is that some radicals on the fringe of the church say that troubles are on the horizon and we need to prepare, and that there’s indications that you might be returning soon and we need to keep oil in our lamps, whatever that means. Others say that an end-time harvest is coming and we must change how we do church. Some even go so far as to say that we need to activate our church altars, and repent.

We’ll be surprised if any of that is true because most of us, and even our leaders, don’t hear or see anything that causes us concern, but we thought we’d run it by you just in case.

Continued tomorrow.

Is it inappropriate to be ROTFL? I can just imagine some writing a letter like this.
Maybe crying would be more appropriate.

Well, it’s obviously satire and intended to be humorous in a way with the hope of provoking some to realize how ridiculous our thinking really is. I gather that you might ROTFL and then be in tears before the Lord. Thanks for yours!!
