#49 – Something Better, 8

FOR HIS GLORY
Most Christians recognize that we were created for God’s glory, but do we know what that means?

Forgive me if I insult you, sound sacrilegious, or upset your stomach, but I think that McDonalds understands glory better than many Christians do. I’ll try to define it in a practical, functional sense more than theologically.

THE SUNRISE
Why would you describe a certain sunrise as “glorious?” Isn’t it because of how it compares to others? Wasn’t it more colorful and intense with greater contrast, making it superior?

Further, didn’t it stimulate a capacity inside of you to recognize that and to respond? And wasn’t it transcendent in a certain way, with a capacity to lift you up if something heavy was going on in your life? It had “glory!” Get it?

SO – –
So, in layman’s terms, “Glory” can be thought of as the measure of excellence or superiority in beauty, power or reward that one thing has over another. You recognize that and respond. Simply put, that’s what McDonalds’ billboard was intended to do!

A God-lover wrote, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” (Psa. 42:1b niv) However, God and Satan both present their option and profess their superiority for satisfying our soul’s thirst, and both appeal to something inside of us and call for a response. Satan’s option is based on lies which lead to death, but God offers true Life because He has GLORY!

THE CHOICE
We glorify God when we chose Him over Satan as the superior source to satisfy our soul’s thirst, but He then requires that we follow Jesus in a way that enables Him to call others to His Presence in us as in Isaiah 60:1-3. Only then do we glorify Him!

Church, how well are we doing at that? When we accept today’s popular church model we deprive God of glory and cheat ourselves out of the richness of life in His Kingdom. There really is something better!

His glory is all around us, sometimes we just need to open our eyes and hearts to see it.
