#35 – House Churches – 3

HOUSE CHURCHES – 3

I feel compelled to advance the house church concept for three reasons. First, because of observations I shared in the Jan. 24 post “The Time is NOW,” and secondly because it was the model of the early Church. The Church was not an institution as we know it for the first 200 or so years, which included taking the Gospel to the ends of the then-known world.

I encourage you to take a look at the SIMPLE CHURCH JOURNAL and read some of the articles under “The Basics,” in the right-hand column.  You can subscribe, free. www.simplechurchjournal.com/ (Sorry, but there are some broken links in there.)

Thirdly, and probably most importantly, because it allows the Church to function in essential ways that God always intended but which are hardly possible in the institutional church. It IS time for change.

A crucial aspect of house churches is their potential for participation by all instead of the orchestrated and highly-controlled, top-down system that most of us know. And there is freedom for a missional focus instead of being defined and dominated by facilities, program and budgets.

I also commend to you, “Discovering Participatory Church Meetings,” a long but excellent article.

All for today. More to come! Ask God about this before you either dismiss it or plunge in!!
