Surely it is obvious to Christians that something big is going on. Surely we can feel the encroaching darkness.
Surely we know that the stock market; the ongoing growth of personal wealth; our booming housing market; and Washington’s incessant borrowing to expedite our transition into a socialist society – – are unsustainable. The bubble will burst.
And surely we know that our dramatic swing in moral, political and social norms must bring previously unthinkable challenges for which we are unprepared.
It’s not surprising that those “of the world” would simply go along for the ride because this is all they have. But Christians? Those who claim to be “of Jesus”?
How can it be, that authentic Christians are not “marked” in such a tumultuous Day? That we don’t stand out as peculiar because we have adopted a single-minded focus on Jesus including obedience to His radical and life-altering mandates?
A focus that would connect us with the heart, purpose and power of the Father; give us a new sense of identity; and produce a recognizable peace that sets us apart from others regardless of what happens in our land – – and in the process would glorify Him and attract many to Him?
The answer lies in our dissimilarity to the heroes of Hebrews 11 and our dismissal of Col. 3:1-3 and similar scriptures.
Invite a few friends over, discuss the Word together and let God’s Spirit instruct you. No preacher is needed. John 14:26, Heb. 4:12-13 and II Tim. 3:16-17 are still true! BE the Church and see what happens!
Email me (email@example.com) with your contact info if you live nearby and are ready to meet with others for a Heb. 10:23-25 giving-and-receiving gathering to consider Heb. 11 – – and prayer that could lead to costly change. No spies please but Nicodemus is welcome.
And no, I am NOT thinking of starting a church – – only of BEING the Church in the way that is imperative for our Day. What does it mean to be men and women of faith?
