#87 – Truth

WHAT IS TRUTH?
I wish Jesus had answered Pilate’s question “What is truth?”*, but He had already said “I am the way, the truth and the life”* and that should be enough.

God’s design of man and his universe is built on the foundation that He laid down. He predetermined how things would work in relation to each other. His established Truth in every sphere is unavoidable regardless of man’s opinions or actions.

Aligning ourselves with Truth produces the righteousness, peace and joy of the Kingdom of God. (Rom. 14:17) It is always the good way to live and is the only way to live well in troubled times. It’s a lifelong challenge that we practice moment by moment – – and the more we do it the better we like it.

A sincere desire to know Truth for life implies a willingness to live by it. I doubt if Pilate really wanted to know, and we must ask ourselves if we do.

TODAY
Jesus spoke some sobering Truth about our Day, but we don’t need to live in fear because He also said, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31b-32 niv) Note that little “If.”

But He also said “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” (John 5:39-40 niv) It would benefit us little, to memorize every word that Jesus ever spoke if we only approach Him with our mind. We must bring Him our heart, our very inner being, and surrender our will to Him at the foot of the cross.

None of us can do this alone. It calls for partnering with others in the context of I Cor. 14:26, Eph. 4:15-21, and Col. 3:16-17 as we seek to “continue in His Word” and to live it out. It requires humble hearts who dare to embrace Truth in the face of judgment from those who don’t hear His voice about needed change in how we are being the Church in our time – – and that’s the truth.
