#60 – Who Are We? – 1

A PEOPLE FOR GOD
God has always wanted a people of His own among all the peoples of the earth. They would be separate from the others, marked by His Presence and given to His purposes. He wants mankind to know that despite all the havoc brought on the earth by Satan, He is God and He is good.

In the Old Testament they would be a people through whom the Messiah would come. The one spoken of in Isaiah 61:1 who would bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for the captives, and release the prisoners from darkness. Jesus the Christ is that Messiah, and He came through the physical nation Israel.

In the New Testament era they would be a people whom Jesus established as the Church to proclaim Him as Messiah, and to announce freedom to those captives. They are the spiritual nation through whom the Gospel would cover the earth.

NOW THEN – –
“Now then, if you listen, intently listen, to my voice; and keep my covenant; then you will be my personal property from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine. 6) And you yourselves will be my kingdom of priests and holy nation.” Ex. 19:5-6a *

“You must be holy, for I, Yahweh, am holy, and I have separated you from the other peoples, for you belong to me.” Lev. 20:26

“For you are a nation that is set apart to Yahweh your God. He has chosen you to be a people for him to possess, more than all the other peoples that are on the face of the earth.” Deut. 7:6 Also Deut. 26:18.

“My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people. 28 Then the nations will know that I am Yahweh who sets Israel apart, when my holy place is among them forever.” Ezekiel 37:27-28

THE CHOICE
However, then as now, because of man’s free-will they had to choose if they would walk in God’s ways and fulfill His purposes for them. Read Deut. 30:15-20.

More to come, because so many Christians don’t really know who we are!
