#274 – The Light Has Come

Oh God, you have become so near.
You have so reached out to me,
   touched my sorrowful soul,
and drawn me near to Yourself.

You have brought Light into my darkness,
   the Light of your Presence into the darkness of my soul;
The darkness that our enemy would cast upon me
because of the sorrows of losses,
      rejections and betrayals.
The darkness that represents his nature,
and which envelopes the world I live in.

The world that was formed by the One Who is Himself light,
but Whose light is hidden from those in whom darkness rules,
those who have the candle of your presence within them,
because they were formed in your image and you are light.
yet it is hardly seen because the First Adam,
      in the Garden,
      rejected that Light.

But then that Light reappeared in the Second Adam,
the One who is Himself Light,
and whose Light cannot be overcome by darkness.
The One who defeated that darkness and condemned its power,
for all who choose Light over darkness.

It is that Light that has come into my soul,
into the blackness that the dark one would cast over me,
in the midst of those sorrows of life.

The darkness that tempts me to question the love of the Father,
and the power of the Son who is Light.
The darkness that tempts me to question your wisdom,
   love, and sovereignty.
Yes, even your goodness.

The darkness that shouts the lie that you have turned your back on me,
or that I have sinned against you and deserve such suffering.
The darkness that would hide the Light,
   except that it cannot.

It is into that darkness that the One who is Light declares,
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” *

I have come,
and You have done as you said you would.
Thank you.
