25-22, Who Am I?

I am restless about the measure to which America’s Christians are finding our identity in politics.

Our political views have taken on a religious fervor that seems to me to supersede our identity in the Kingdom of God. I most certainly identify with the conservative side because I believe it is more right according to scripture, but I suspect that the measure to which many are presently given to MAGA and Trumpism will soon betray them.

Under our fearless leader we are unwittingly embracing a path whose technology and financial systems are setting up every scenario and system that will be needed in what scripture would describe as the horrors of the Last Days. Many in the church in America are as sheep being led to the slaughter without protest because we are under the illusion that this path leads to the green pastures that we have known as “The American Dream,” which has become our identity. Even our god.

In John 18:36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” (NIV)

The Kingdom of God is as real a place as America is. It is in the spirit realm, but it is where Jesus found His identity (security, purpose and sense of well-being) and where we are to find ours. That matters for today and it matters for eternity. Hebrews 12:25-29 shaking is coming but many American churchgoers won’t repent even if everything west of The San Andreas Fault slides into the Pacific Ocean in an earthquake.

“For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?” I Peter 4:17 NIV

“Today” is a good time to take God seriously. Hebrews 10:24-25.

Please don’t hate me.
