#124 – How Could It Be?

I am newly reminded of how satisfied we Christians are with the religion of “church” as we know it.

We are at ease, as in the days of Noah, with little apparent sense of impending danger. As the unbelievers couldn’t imagine rain and floods because they had never seen them before, many Christians and their leaders of our generation refuse to believe what is coming.

We are as sheep being led to the slaughter, like the Jews who were herded naked into the gas chambers. They believed that, as they had been told by those with power, they were to be disinfected and given a shower for their benefit. They didn’t realize the truth of the overhead pipes and “shower heads” until the gas started to flow. Even the stench of nearby burning bodies hadn’t awakened them. How could it be?

The sign in German over the Auschwitz entrance gate, “Arbeit macht frei,” means “Work Sets You Free,” but the train tracks on which the Jews arrived led directly into the concentration camp and the horrors within. And so it happens, and it is always based on deception and lies.

THE HOLOCAUST
“The Holocaust was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its allies and collaborators.” www.ushmm.org/learn Those slated for death were obstacles to the agenda of those with power who were joined by allies and collaborators who selfishly believed that it was to their benefit to do so. That’s just the way it works.

“It was a different world, but it was created in our world. Auschwitz and the Holocaust do not fall from the sky; they are both born and originate from somewhere.” http://auschwitz.org/en/ It is always so.

AND. . .
“It is hard not to feel that the pandemic has deepened our emotional separatism. We observe the development of the language of emotion, populism and demagogy*, which is considerably trivialising public debate in all parts of our world. It is compounded by the influence of social networks, which encapsulate the discussion in a very small, self-select group.” http://auschwitz.org/en/ Words to the wise.

How could it be? But it is. Where are the “Noahs” of our Day?

*Demagogy, “political activity or practices that seek support by appealing to the desires and prejudices of ordinary people rather than by using rational argument.” (Oxford Dictionary)
