#105 – Abide in Me, 4

“A QUESTION” REVISITED
I am grateful for and encouraged by the humble and transparent responses to my July 2 question (below) on Facebook. (Ken Stoltzfus – Kidron)

Most were similar in spirit to my brother’s answer. He had paused for only a moment before saying, “It will cost me everything” – – the exact words I was looking for. He is in the midst of an acrimonious divorce and chooses to repeatedly “let go” and trust God in what seems to be vindictiveness from others and injustice in the legal system.

Things that were important to him lose their power as he again and again chooses the path that honors God and protects his children. He has lost much but is finding a new identity in Christ which profoundly affects his values, purpose, sense of well-being – – and joy.

It is unfortunate but true that suffering is often the key factor in bringing us to the place where we are “broken” enough to allow the grace of God to seep into us, empowering us to honor Him in a greater way in the trials of life.

My July 2 question (below) gets to the very core of how we will respond in the coming Day. “It will cost me everything” is the mindset that enables us to let go of earthly things and to “abide in Christ” in a way that brings abundant life, and now is a good time to embrace that attitude more fully. It’s an exciting topic, and it is coming alive inside of me. More soon!

A QUESTION
I had breakfast this morning with an early 30’s Jesus-lover and I asked him, “How would you respond if I said it costs us something to follow Jesus?”

So, how would YOU respond?
